Yolanda Becerra, Grassroots Women’s Organisation

“The vision of the Women’s Social Movement for Peace and against War is that peace has to come from below, from the groups that are directly affected, like women. Since 1996 the project has attempted to include women in the search for peace, and to take into consideration their experiences, ideas and proposals. A solution should address structural causes like poverty, impunity, and injustice. The focus of the movement follows three lines. First, the mobilisation of grassroots groups and the training and education of women, bringing together experiences, developing proposals, and involving women in the search for solutions. Second, justice; the legal work in the Courts against impunity. Finally, politics; advocating nationally and internationally to communicate women’s experiences and vision for peace to as many relevant bodies as possible.”
