PBI MEXICO: BECOME A FIELD VOLUNTEER

PBI Mexico is now accepting applications for new field volunteers. Volunteers provide nonviolent and nonpartisan accompaniment to human rights defenders under threat, strengthening their security and raising visibility of their work before national and international actors.

PBI MEXICO: BECOME A FIELD VOLUNTEER

Requirements: 

  • Strong personal reflection on your motivations to work with PBI in the field.
  • High and fluent level of Spanish: spoken, written, and read (equivalent to C1/C2 or similar). Unfortunately, we cannot make exceptions to the language requirement.
  • Previous work experience in social movements or human rights NGOs, in cooperation, social work, and/or with grassroots, social, or community organizations, especially in Latin America.
  • Minimum one-year commitment to volunteer work with a PBI Mexico team.
  • Understanding of and commitment to PBI Mexico’s mandate.
  • Commitment to working under principles of nonpartisanship and nonviolence.
  • Availability and ability to carry out thematic work across all areas (advocacy, accompaniment, communication, and security), as well as administrative tasks.
  • Teamwork and group living experience, especially in stressful situations.
  • Basic computer skills: word processors, email, and databases.
  • Availability and ability to comply with security rules when working in a conflict context.
  • Knowledge and application of an intersectional and differential gender perspective.

Selection and Training Process:

If you are interested in joining the PBI Mexico Project:

  1. Complete and send the application form and three reference forms (from the associative, solidarity, NGO, work, or academic fields) to formacion@pbi-mexico.org by September 7, 2025. A pre-selection will be made based on the applications received.
  2. Following pre-selection, online personal interviews will take place between September 17 – 27, 2025.
  3. Candidates selected based on the interview will be invited to participate in the planned virtual training. Before the training, candidates must complete a series of readings, self-study workbooks, and a group assignment between October 13 – November 10, 2025 (one workbook per week plus a group assignment in the last week). Only those who successfully complete these exercises will be able to attend the training.

  • Virtual training dates: November 14 – 16, 2025 and November 21 – 23, 2025
