Mexico D.F., 27 September 2013. Next Tuesday, 01 October, in Chihuahua City, PBI Mexico will officially launch its new field team in the north of the country. The Northern Team is starting its accompaniment work to human rights defenders in the states of Chihuahua and Coahuila.
You can follow the event on twitter and facebook, as well as watch it live through livestream. The event starts at 1.30pm Chihuahua time (2.30pm Mexico DF time, 9.30pm Central European Time) and ends at 3.30pm local time.
The event will have the presence of the diplomatic corps in Mexico, including the Ambassadors of Canada and Holland, the Office in Mexico of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations, Federal authorities, state authorities from Chihuahua and Coahuila, as well as human rights defenders from both states.
During the event, PBI will make a statement about its decision to open a new team in the north of Mexico and its analysis on the situation of human rights defenders in the region. Human rights defenders will make interventions about their work and situation of risk. Authorities will have an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the important work carried out by human rights defenders as well as their commitments to their protection.
Parallel to the event, the photo exhibit “PBI in Mexico” will show the organization's work with human rights defenders in the country over the last years.
